I don't like the Ideas of workarounds in the first place, but with an assign method, I can change my baseclasses to work exaclty as expected: change the readonly property and it looks like it should, and when its non-readonly gives me the functionality of the DropDown List. Best of both worlds (styles) and nothing to remeber!
