If you aren't sure of an answer, start with "I haven't tried this but..." or similar disclaimer. If someone has tried it they'll chime in with the results they got. If not, and it's a new idea, someone will have the time/energy to test it.

I've done it and been shot down - but I've also done it and gotten a lavish thankyou when a 'blue sky idea' DID work.
