I had the same problem. - Got the same error messages!
I found that it was down to using Oracle's version of the ODBC driver.
The MS version would allow the FoxPro view to write back correctly to the underlying Oracle tables. - However the MS version of the Oracle driver would not allow my views to pull through pieces of Oracle information like ROWID, or to use Oracle stored procedures, where as the Oracle driver would!
In the end, I opted for a mixture of views and SLQ-Passthrough (SQLEXEC, SQLCONNECT) which work just as well.

P.S. Also you need ensure that you have set up valid primary keys, in both the VFP views and the Oracle tables.
