Every internet message forum I've ever taken part in on a regular basis periodically goes through this kind of discussion because a few individuals use the freedom of the medium to behave badly.

I've only been a UT participant for about 2 or 3 months and I'm happy to say it's the most professional, respectful group of correspondents I've seen and though I do not read as many of the threads as many of you do, I have yet to see any correspondence which is even remotely offensive.

Additionally, as a neophyte to both UT and VFP in general, I've felt comfortable about asking questions which I'm sure might seem tiresome or even downright stupid to some members of the 'inner sanctum', but all the responses have been patient and respectful. A voting scheme would be a 'stick' that could make less experienced people shy about participating, and if I read behind the lines correctly, welcoming and serving the less experienced is part of UT's unwritten charter. You already have 'carrots': being published in the FILES, KB or FAQ or having a UT hyperlink to your publications, etc. A stick isn't necessary.

Seems to me the regulars on UT have set the tone by which it pretty much regulates itself. I doubt if any form of regulation (even a soft metric, like 'voting') would get it any closer to perfection (whatever that is).

It works. Don't fix it.
