OK I've solved the problem. It seems there was a clear events in the destroy event of the main form as well as a clear events in the click of the button to close the same form. I also had placed a new form at the end of the application with it's own read events command. I don't even remember why I did this, it was so long ago, but when I changed everything to a single read (I know...DUH) it worked fine.
