>>I think you'll find that many (most) of the questions are answered in the FAQ; rather than repeating the things that I'd answered time and again, I've gone and dropped them in the FAQ, and then sent people to the FAQ for the gory details. Perhaps if other people chould do that, we'd be able to have less lengthy conversations about things we've rehashed a few billion times before.
>>IOW, rather than starting another FAQ, forcing people to go all over creation to find the right FAQ, why not make the one we've got better? Sounds like a win for everybody - make the FAQ stronger, get the best answers to the questions up with a known location we can point to in messages, and cut down on where we have to go to find a decent answer all at the same time...

>I guess I was thinking about doing a most freq every month or so, for the most freq. questions of that month. I've learned alot by reading about other people's problems and the answers that others have posted. It seemed like we could all be better coders if some of the most freq. pitfalls were gathered together into one place so you could just read them over.

The UT FAQ automagically will display the 50 most frequently reference FAQ entries, thanks to a recent enhancement here on UT.

>If the thread annoys you, I will drop it, but I would rather continue doing the gathering.

Not annoying, just making life that much more difficult for people trying to find stuff. A multitude of FAQs make life much more trying for someone in search of the best answers to common questions.

It's that way with FAQs on NT and Win2K now. There are lots of places to find 'a' FAQ. The best of them now if John Saville's at www.ntfaq.com, at least IMHO. When questions come up about NT subjects, that's the first thing I hit, and I send my own hints in to John's site if I come up with something I think belongs in the NT FAQ; in most cases, someone already thunk it up and answered it!

I'll continue contributing here to UT's FAQ for the same reasons; the information here is solid, and the list of topics grows as people make contributions, making the UT community that much stronger.

If you want to make your own FAQ because UT just doesn't cut it for you, fine; don't forget the most important FAQ entry in your FAQ, though:

Q: Where should I go to get help when it ain't in this +#&^% FAQ?
A: www.levelextreme.com - Check the FAQ there, too.

you can look on UT after examining someone else's FAQ to see if I've given an answer...
