Big Yes! Use a default value to enter data in fields you don't need to worry about in code. Examples could be key fields (Primary keys), state (based on zip code), gender (based on title), etc.

You then just put the values you need to and these will be entered based on existing information. Watch for NULL though, there are a few boobie-traps here.
