If you use VB6, the new DataForm wizard can generate that kind of form with code instead of data controls.

Maybe a good example is too generate a form with the wizard, run it to see what it is doing (without looking the code), build your own to make it work like the one generated by the wizard and compare.

You can also look at the Microsoft Mastering series (msdn.microsoft.com/mastering). This serie is courses on CD.
