Sounds like an interesting project. Here are some places to start:
- check the UT knowledgebase for a few internet articles
- check West Wind for some more
http://www.west-wind.com/Articles.aspSome technologies to put an app on the web (off the top of my head):
For these next 4 you need to rewrite the app or at least the portion that is accessed from the web
- Web connection from
www.west-wind.com-
www.x-works.com -
www.foxweb.com -
www.activefoxpropages.comThis next one will allow you to run the app as is but requires an investment is software. Not very scalable since the app is run on an NT server.
- use cytrix to access app "as is" over the internet
www.cytrix.comSimilar to above but user signs onto a specific computer and runs app (not on the server as above. Only screens are sent down the wire
- use PcAnywhere
Others will have more ideas..
>Talk about diving in at the deep end. I haven't even completed a straightforward vfp project (upgrade from 2.6) but I'm being asked to report on the hows, costs and timetable for putting an automated sales application on the web.
>Can someone please point me in the right direction for complete novices (web application wise)
