I would still keep updated versions of GENDBC in VSS. But, if you wanted to keep versions of the populated tables in VSS as well, I suppose I'd do that with the VSS explorer. It would not be too bad. Just Add them to VSS and then do a Get Latest Version on them and make them writeable.

When you are ready to check in another set of data, go to the VSS Explorer and Check them out with the Don't Get Local Copy option checked. Immediately after doing that, Check the files back in. Then, to get a good disconnected, writeable copy of them, Get Latest Version on them again and make them writeable.

On my team, we call this a phantom checkin. I'm not sure if there is a real name for it or not, but it's working great for us.

It isn't as much work as it sounds like, if you put all the files in a sub-project (aka folder) in VSS.
