I re-phrase my statement. Microsoft's current strategy is to have us write applications that use an n-tier design, where different layers are written in different languages using COM for communication between those layers. Data should be stored on a SQL-backend (MSSQL or MSDE), the server should be NT and a lot of tools on NT are used like MTS, MSMQ, and so on.
When I said 3-tier application, I actually meant an application that really uses several tools, especially a back-end database. However, many applications can easily be done with VFP as the only tool, but that doesn't seem to be the strategy of Microsoft.
