I am aware that you can select into a cursor, however that cursor is not updatable as you mentioned in your earilier message. when you use the CREATE CURSOR command the cursor that is created is updateable and acts the same as a table. You cannot create that type of cursor with a select statement, thus the extra step. A view is another good choice that should work for you here -jack
