Free tables are not a limitation for creating views :) Moreover you could have transaction capabilities with views on free tables.
A fox2x table is not touched (I mean still usable by Fox2x) if :
-You don't add a new field in VFP
-You don't add it to a DBC
-You don't enable acceptance of null values.

You could create a DBC and have a view that's using free tables as base tables. It would add some enhancements for VFP side while you could still share them with Fox2x.
