Hell, if you have SET TALK ON, you get the count output to the current active window. It does not seem that far of a leap to direct this to a progress bar. This just seems like such a simple wish list request. I know it comes up quite often. I don't understand why MS does not add this feature.

While I did pose this question to FPA, the current alternative is a bust, IMHO.

>To me, this is one of those cases of yes, you can do it, but should you??? Doug's comment is a good one in that the time to dialog the user can greatly increase the time it takes to create the indexes. And, the fact that you have to go and remove info from the CDX after the fact pretty much cements it in my mind that it is flat out, not worth it. With Set Talk On, I get all the status I need.

>>>Can anyone give me the final trick to show the progression of an INDEX command WITHOUT getting the function name of the Progression routine written to the index file.

>>I recently submitted this question to FoxPro Advisor, and it was answered in the August 1999 issue by Christof Lange. Basically you still have to d a function call, but he included about a page of code to run to remove the function from the CDX. The code was included on the Resource CD for those who subscribe to that.
