A little off the subject, but one area that I think would make a great thesis paper is social engineering with relation to the stock market. With the near instant communications via TV, radio, and the internet how easy would it be to plant a rumor that X company is merging with Y company to get the stock price to change. I know some people have already tried it (and been arrested). You've got a perfect way of tracking your influence through the stock price itself.
