Rob, it isn't only when the client insists. IMO, some of the standards don't make sense for custom apps. For example, the standards detail how many pixels you should have between OK buttons and the form border. Now, if I was creating a commercial application, I might follow this carefully. In custom apps, it takes too much time to make sure all the forms comply with this standard.
