Define "finer nuances" ...

SCAN...ENDSCAN simply goes record by record through a table without an explicit record pointer command like SKIP. You can enhance the flexibility of SCAN..ENDSCAN by adding a FOR clause to only skip through records matching the clause or a WHILE clause where the SCAN will end at the first record not matching the WHILE clause.
