>>>Nope; Whil Hentzen is now the editor, and the content has been consistently good, with articles on a rgular basis from Doug Hennig, John Petersen, Paul maskens and a host of other people.

>>John Petersen recently stopped writing for FoxTalk. He's now writing for FPA. I would add Jim Booth to your list of regular FT authors.

If you subscribe, you can download the content from Pinnacle's Web site along with extended content only available there. Non-subscribers can search the database of articles and download the articles and files for $5/article from the site.

A new option was just announced for Foxtalk - for an additional $ 3.34/month, subscribers can access the full FoxTalk magazine on-line, and this includes access to the preceding 3 years' content.

I thing it's worth the $11/issue ($130/year) for the magazine - I certainly get that much out of stuff I'd never read otherwise, and I've been able to use a remarkable amount of code that came from the FoxTalk articles. I'm going to go ahead and spend the extra money for web access - I lose magazines too easily, and having the content available to me whenever and whereever I need it is worth the cost IMO.

Pinnacle also periodically puts out the back issues of FoxTalk on CD; volume 2 covered about 2 years, ending with June, 1998. List is about $80, and there's a sale going now, which is selling the Volume 2 CD for $39. While it may sound like it's all old stuff, there's a remarkable amount of useful content from this time period; for example, Doug hennig's artcile on STARTAPP, a launcher program that can be used to manage getting the latest version of files out to each user, was written in 1997; STARTAPP was the starting point for the application maintenance code that I use to keep user systems updated with current code, controls, registry information and the like. Other stuff from that same time period include Rod paddock's instrumenting apps, Gary DeWitt's columns on using the Win32 API, and Doug Hennig's ongoing SFTools project.

Pinnacle's newsletters are a bit pricy, admittedly, but it's solid content, and you can save money on subscriptions - 10% for payment with the subscription, and 25% off if you subscribe to more than one of their newsletters. They do have some other ones that many people will find useful - pubs on VB, Delphi, SQL Server, Oracle, VC++, Access ACT and Macromedia's graphics tools, with prices between $79 and $199 for a one year subscription.
