And the opposite can also be true. Sometimes you can charge more in rural communities (that still have a technology base to support) because you're one of few programmers in the area and the companies in that rural community still want somebody 'local' to service them. Still, it's nothing like what you could charge in New York... but I can charge more here (Southwest Missouri/Northwest Arkansas) than in Kansas City.
