Jim,

>It really does have me wondering how so many people could have reported 'now running nice and fast, as expected' (over several years now) once told to try an index on DELETED() and doing so [because I am willing to bet that the vast majority of tables have only a very small percentage of deleted records].

It's a mystery to me also. The only explanation I can come up with is the FILTERED resultset feature.

>I would agree that running over a modem (a much more recent phenomenon) would tend to highlight this more directly, but I still have a problem rationalizing the situation.

Me too... I can't believe that one of the most accepted believes among VFP developers seemed to be absolutely false for so long. I was rather surprised that initially almost nobody did believe my story of the deleted() tag.

>I suppose that you will now install VFP on that machine. If you do, is a repeat of the exact test possible (though of course I know that you did enough prior testing to KNOW that it was most similar on a "virgin" FPD machine).

Yep, It's already installed, I'll look into that again tomorrow...
