More likely, it would be interesting to know if the memos get automatically packed or not (for .scx files), since the structure is identical (AFAIK) to the .vcx files where the memos don't get packed regularly (more maintenance chores for the projecthooks...). Therefore, it may be likely that the string searched may be found in an obsolete and unused block, causing no harm if replaced (with a string of exactly equal width!) and doing nothing at all.

I'd still do it in the DE.BeforeOpenTables (with .autoOpenTables=.f., before calling .OpenTables - if I remember it well).
