>The Hackers Guide has very little (according to the index) and on-line help doesn't give a lot of help on triggers. So either they've been left out on purpose, or their just not very important. Can someone tell me about them? Like, on an update, does the trigger get fired for the current field every field, once or every time? Anything you could tell me would be usefull.

Mike -

I wish I knew enough about VFP and triggers to help answer your question. I wasn't able to find much in Hacker's Guide regarding triggers either. Two other books I bought *DID* address them though. Don't know if this will help any, but they are;
1.) "Visual FoxPro 6, Enterprise Developnment" by Paddock, Petersen, and Talmage from Prima Publishing. This talks about the VFP RI builder and has about 5 pages on triggers, (Chapter 10, pp412-417.

2.) "Effective Techniques for Application Development with Visual FoxPro6.0" by Booth and Sawyer from Hentzenwerke Publishing. This has an entire chapter devoted to triggers, (Chapter 6) and would probably be your best bet. If you can't locate the book (an electronic copy is available when you order online from Hentzenwerke) let me know and I'll "be your eyes", and scan the chapter for you.

I'd venture to say that the triggers are pretty signifigant, especially when not using a backend DB with built it's own triggers.
