VFP 3.0b's performance over phone lines question
I am currently developing a VFP 3.0b exe which will be used in-house as well as by remote users. The program will run on a Novell 4.x network, under Win 3.1x as well as Win95. Presently, the way a remote user will use the application is by dialing into the Novell network, logging in, and then once logged in it will be as if they were a local user, except they are communicating via phone lines. It's something called a
"remote node", I think. I'm just wondering how to get the best performance (meaning fastest in this case) for the remote user's of the system when they are communicating via phone lines. Some of the tables may get quite large (1,000s of records) and it would take a while to download these. Would using views as opposed to tables help at all? Would using MS SQL Server aid in performance at all, in a scenario such as this? Presently, an internet application is not an option. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
