I was nominated practically before I knew the program existed. I started on the Microsoft groups, and the oldtimers didn't advertise their status. I like that approach, btw, and wouldn't mind if the blue envelopes disappeared.

One can nominate oneself, but it's a rather long process and can be somewhat nervewracking. So, for anyone who is interested, just do what comes natural. But, that said, MVP is a thank-you from MS, and doesn't mean anybody has *inside* info or are infallible.
