>>I'm also not currently looking for a job either but I regularly check the classifieds to see what technology/tools are in demand (although not a great indicator by any means).
>>
>>In the last weeks L.A. Times, the ratio of VB to VFP was roughly 20:1 (compared to about 4:1 in your area). In fact, I think there was only 2 VFP positions listed, lowest ever.
>>
>>Finally, I think there's a big difference between consulting and being a corporate developer. I've also done "light" consulting work before and indeed the tool you use is not a factor. The client only want a solution and doesn't really care about what tool you use. However, it's different if you're working for a corporation. Usually, standards are in place before you arrive and future decisions are made by management.
>>
>>If I'm a betting man, I'll take 4:1 odds over 1:4.
>>
>>>I'll have to throw in my .02 with Craig and Mark. I don't have enough hours in the day. I have to turn down one or two consulting jobs every month. I feel guilty making as much money as I am making, but all of my clients are incredibly eager to dish out my hourly rate- and they often get mad at each other for hogging my time.
>>>
>>>There are an average of 4-6 foxpro jobs in the paper here every Sunday (not that I am looking for more work). That's compared to 1-2 Delphi, 1-2 PB, and 12-15 VB and 15-20 C++.
>
>In the Minneapolis area, there are many large companies using FP/VFP( and of course programmers) that NEVER advertise in the paper. If one looks in the want ads, VFP doesn't exist, yet I work in a shop with 8 VFP developers, most contractors like me, making at least as much, if not more, than the VB guys. I have a friend on a multi year(that's year not week) contract making 100.00 an hour, pure VFP. You gotta look for this stuff, not expect corporations to track you down begging. Yes, we have a PR battle VB doesn't, but we have a better tool in most cases. If MS would just make VFP a better COM and Windows tool, we could steal tons of VB business.

I just received the August 1999 VBPJ issue and in the Guest Opinion column there is an article called "Why VB Gets No Respect." I thought they could have changed VB to VFP and it would still make sense.
