Ah! I see the misunderstanding. The "it" refered to XML, not wwXML. But, wwXML is helping me grasp the concepts I was missing by spending all my time on the other end.

Thanks for clarifying the question: does it need to be denormalized or not.

For the data exchange...I dunno yet, but I suspect that in most cases denormalized will be just fine. And certainly to start--since that's how import/export does it now.
