I realize I wasn't clear with my last message. Sorry.

I tried what you suggested but couldn't get the SP code to fire when I did the tableupdate command. I think the validation rule will only fire if the field value changes. Right? But I need to change the datetime field no matter which field changes in the view and assumed the table update trigger would do it. I think I'l have to put rules in for every field that then changes the datetime field. Does this sound correct to you?
