From what I heard, the Kansas State School Board banned the teaching of evolution in public schools. Specifically, "micro-evolution" can still be taught... that is, Darwin's finches, etc. but the big picture (e.g. that mankind evolved from apes) is specifically forbidden.
Apparently the KS legislature is so upset they're looking into ways to modify the state constitution (!) to dissolve the school board.
