There's been alot of confusion on this topic in the press. What the state board of education did, however, was to vote to remove any questions on the theory of evolution from the Kansas statewide science assessment test. The local districts decide what to teach. Since the national SAT and ACT tests still require some knowledge of evolution and the teachers will probably still teach those theories of evolution as well as other theories. It's more of a situation where the assessment board was pressured and the local districts couldn't care less.

>From what I heard, the Kansas State School Board banned the teaching of evolution in public schools. Specifically, "micro-evolution" can still be taught... that is, Darwin's finches, etc. but the big picture (e.g. that mankind evolved from apes) is specifically forbidden.

>Apparently the KS legislature is so upset they're looking into ways to modify the state constitution (!) to dissolve the school board.

>>That's why I was asking. I was kind of paying attention when they talked about it on t.v. I'm not sure of the details at all.

>>>Wasn't that Kansas, the state, rather than K.C.? IAC, IMO the scariest story of the week... more so than the shooter in L.A.
