The VFP6 book by Menachem Bazian, is a good reference.

I started with my own foundation, went to CodeBook, Visual FoxExpress (CodeBook based), and then to Visual MaxFrame Professional. There are two basic types of foundations: object based, as is CodeBook, and form based like Visual MaxFrame Professional. There are several other foundations, as you may know. Depending upon your knowledge of Visual FoxPro, the project at hand, and available manpower, you should be able to select a foundation to meet your requirements. If you write your own foundation, you will spend about a year in the effort. It is better to purchase an existing foundation, and learn how to use it.

Form centric foundations have a shorter learning curve than object centric foundations. Both are great tools, and it is up to you to decide which one to use. CodeBook is still supported by YAG, at Flash Creative Management, and is used as the basis of several products on the market. Each of the products I am aware of have internet forums, to assist the user/developer.

If you would like additional information, drop me an e-mail at twhiteley@jps.net, so I can respond from my home development site.

This is a great topic, and there are many developers who use existing foundations from many vendors. Using a foundation almost becomes a religious experience. This can become as interesting as VFP vs VB. Well, almost!
