thanks, I only have a lookup table, basically what I do is this -

If I present the user with a choice of ( e.g. solicitors ) in a combo, I create a table with the solicitors name in one field, and a solicitors code in another, I then use this table as a recordsource for a combo and bind the BoundColumn to the ControlSource i.e. the table I want to update, if you think this is a design flaw please let me know
