In music, there is a common myth that the reason "hit" records reach that status is because people like what they hear and buy it, request it, etc.

You know why hit records make that status? Because record companies and radio station groups and promoters and agents decide UP FRONT what songs and groups they will make hits ... before they are ever even heard. It's that simple. They can tell you what the top 40 will be in three months down the line, before some of the songs are even produced.

think of VB as a hit record .....

>Your arguement doesn't hold water. MS is in business to make money. Period. If VB will make them more money than VFP, then that's where they need to direct their attentions. If they are not doing what they can to maximize profits (which in turn maximizes shareholder dividends...remember, share holders are the REAL customers), then they are not doing their jobs.
