>>The most useful information I got on migrating, came from MicroEndeavours, Inc. They have a self study course "FoxPro 2.x to Visual FoxPro Migration Manual" www.microendeavors.com/training/default.htm, choose "Self-Study" at the left, then down to the bottom of the page>. This also includes a number "why's" and "how to's", as well as some useful utilities to assist in the process. (I have no connection with them, other than being a satisfied customer.) For the $199, at least you can make a much more informed decision on the approach "best" for you and the customer.

PMFJI: I, too, tried the MicroEndeavors course -- in classroom, before last year's DevCon. The migration tool looks and works pretty slick, with on-the-fly migration from running code -- but you have to buy in to their coding conventions to some extent, and it may not be comfortable. I think for FPW-2.6 stuff it has some real appeal, especially if you have more or less 'standard' screen designs and such. OTOH: If you have a DOS application, and/or a lot of non-SCX stuff, it may be more trouble than its worth to do anything other than a complete re-write. I tried to migrate some very nice FP-DOS code with defined windows and on-screen menus and pretty slick internals, much of which used old 'Genifer' style code generation, and it was a total disaster to get even the simplest screen to convert with less trouble and time than just starting over in VFP, knowing the way it looked and worked. I also looked at a legacy FP-DOS app with virtually no SCX's and the code migrated just fine (to another PRG) but was so ugly I needed to rewrite into VFP SCXs anyhow. And, as I recall, no help at all for FRXs... It was a cool tool, but didn't do me any good -- pity...
