>>>I've been a little confused reading different opinions here on the UT. I need to store some infomation about the local machine in my app. The registry seemed like a logical choice, but I have seen some complain about "differences" between 95/98/NT registries. So then I thought I should use an .ini file, but I read where people have sworn off using .ini files (no explanation why). Please share your opinion on this subject, and why you feel the way you do. Thanks for your help.

I am aware that you can lock the registry from tools such as REGEDIT. Are you saying that other applications are locked out? I didn't know you could do that. How do you handle things like Word that save everything to the registry? BTW, if this is the case, you can unlock the registry in your code, then lock it again. There is an API call that will do this for you.
