"Entry point into an app" ??? Do you mean as in "Set Main" ??? If that's what you're going after, I use a "Hello" program. This follows the logic of Microsoft's sample apps for VFP and VB. For UI questions, I recommend setting Microsoft's examples as the standard. Not that improvements can't be made that's part of why we're called developers. My "hello" program, typically called "main.prg", sets the most basic elements of the environment, instantiates the various global objects I use, and most importantly calls oApp.appinit which ends with "READ EVENTS". It's a tight compartmentalized methodology. If this is not addressing your question, feel free to toss this in the appropriate file location.

Or do you mean the launch point for a form ??? In which case, I'd agree with Craig, the MS standard would be a menu ...
