Thanks for your help. I've tried it and everything seemed OK until I went into a grid. If you then click out of the grid into, for example, a textbox then click on another page the result from VARREAD() seems to be empty rather than the name of the value of the ControlSource for the textbox which it was returning before entering the grid.
