You should have a development and production copy of all your files. Especially your data. Then do testing on your development tables and incorporate your changes to your clients. If you use a .exe, it is just a matter of rebuilding your exe.

Also, if you use a similar directory structure on both, you can use a relative path to your data from a root where your .exe is...
