I believe a vcx file was created from a prg. You cannot modify the class visually, but you can save subclasses of the VFP environment base classes in a vcx.

Look in the tips and tricks page on my website - www.nbcsoftware.com - you will find a way of saving a class in a vcx that is defined in code. I can't remember offhand the full instructions. As you say, it can be done!
