Large Report Print Woes
I have a simple report print program that is causing problems. The report is a basic VFP 6.0 design- nothing fancy except for a corporate .GIF logo in the header; a few .dbfs located on an NT 4.0 server; a few SET RELATIONs. The report runs on a Dell OptiPlex 300 Mhz PII running NT 4.0 with 64 Mb of RAM and prints over the NT network to an HP 8100 LaserJet (cool new 32 ppm model!!!).
This is a 1,200-1,400 page report that prints daily. The problem is that more than half the time, the report dies while the "Printing..." dialog box showing the page count is up. After anywhere from 200-800 pages shown, the page count stops and the machine freezes, requiring a reboot. NOTE that the page count display takes only a minute or two to go from page 1 to page 1400, making me believe that it is NOT a network performance issue or the like....
My first thought is to increase the workstation RAM to 128 MB... Also possibly to bump up the printer's 16 Mb internal memory. Any other suggestions VFP-wise? Has anyone else had problems with very large page-count reports??
Thanks.... Rich Lieblich
