Well, first of all, as I recall, there was no logical filter in the query, so, assuming the table had records, the result set should as well. If it were my work, I'd have checked RECCOUNT() prior to even issuing it. Certainly it would be a good idea to check _TALLY in those cases where one was present to ensure that some data was selected, prior to trying the append.
