In thinking about this, I realized that there may be circumstances where such a variable wouldn't be reliable. If NOWAIT was included in the command, then it wouldn't. Further, I would think that it's reliability would be limited to beingg evaluated immediately after the command. Still, I think it would be a valuable addition.
