You do NOT need a package. All you need is:

1. A barcode font. The most common and freely available is "3 of 9". Install it. Open wordpad and type *12345678* . Highlight this text and change the font to 3 of 9 . You now have a readable barcode.( Don't forget the "*" at start and end)

2. If your scanner has a keyboard wedge then it is a piece of cake. Whatever is scanned in will come in as though the user typed it at the keyboard. So if you have a form sitting there waiting for input, and you scanned the barcode created above, then you'd get 12345678 coming into the field. This is the simplest method, the easiest and the best. Most reliable as well.

3. Or you could have a scanner connected to the COM port. That is another story and a long one.

If you follow 1. and 2. then you don't need 3.

If though you opt for 3 (why??) then I have had some success using these scanners.
