Hi Criss --

Setting a ControlSource to a function is not a good idea; I can well imagine that the behavior would be hard to manage.

Why not try the following: Create a cursor or view with the decrypted information and use that as the source of the grid. I guess what I am saying is, overall, decouple your encryption/decryption stuff; tie it into saving and retrieving data and get it out of the UI.

>Thanks for the offer, John. After some further investigation, I have tracked the problem down. I now know when and where it's happening, I just don't know why or what to do to correct it.

>The form I'm working on stores patient information. I have two stored procedures that are simple encryption and decryption routines that I use on patient names and SSNs. On the first page of the form, I have a grid that lists the patients. The problem comes when I set a column's control source to, for example, decrypt(clastname) rather than just clastname. I have done this on another form that is working just fine. I just can't get it to work on this one. Any ideas or suggestions on what to check or try next?

However, when I try to run the form (do form myform) I get the error "Error loading file - Font Size - record number 14. Browse table is closed." Anybody have a clue as to where I should start looking for the problem? I'm using VFP3.0b.
