If you have a printer defined as the generic/Text Only printer driver, you can use the various pritner functions, but
you have to insert the appropriate control strings into your output by hand to switch fonts, etc; you've basically told Windows not to interpret the stream by selecting the generic printer driver.
If you do not use a graphics pritner driver, you lose any ability to access fonts that are not native to the printer.
