Could you do a few things:
1. Change the memo so they match in size
2. Open the 2.x table in Fox2.x exclusively and pack it
3. Try the append again

If this doesn't work, make a copy of each file. Remove all but 10 records from the 2.x table. Send both tables with memos and indexes to me at edelay@vanhosp.bc.ca
