>Very nice post, John, and very true.
Thanks.
>This is, generally, my approach now to a multi-disciplinary project. I know it's heretical to say this, but, hell, there are things I just don't want to learn and, besides, I know that there will always be people better at it. Network support is a great example: Small clients generally want a total package from you. I won't do networks: Don't like em and never will. So I farm it.
I completely agree on the network work. I was a Novell network administrator for 5+ years at my last "real job", before starting consulting, at a place with no $$$ for technology so of course I had to do everything, including their database development. I much preferred working on their database over the network admin stuff, I didn't really like it much, but I learned alot. Now I stay away from getting my hands back into network stuff too. One of my partners has done network consulting for over 7 years and he loves it. He'll sit there for hours dinkin around with a server to make it work... me? I'll give it 5 minutes, then I'm ready to dumpster'ize it! But, if a client asks, I say "Sure we can do that!"... then I call Dave! :)
