Putting aside updatable grids which are very useful in those few situations where I need them, I would like to ask what are the advantages of lookup grids over a cursor browse?
I'm sure I'm missing some things here but, in practice, I find many advantages to a browse:
1) All I need to code it is an SQL SELECT and a BROWSE command, two lines of code. (Well, a few lines, since I usually indent and continue the SELECT.)
2) I have very few problems in getting them to work perfectly.
3) They pop-up practically instantaneously.
4) They automatically use the entire form and take up no real-estate when not in use.
5) They scroll up and down very quickly.
The only disadvantage that I am aware of is that the user must press Escape after choosing a record. They get used to that.
Thoughts anyone?
