I was stationed at Orlando Air force Base, September of 1960, and went through Hurricane Donna. What a mess! I was net control for the American Red Cross Amateur Radio Network. We had amateur radio stations reporting the Barometric pressure from Homestead, to the Georgia state line. We were able to perdict the exact path of the hurricane because of this information. I remember when an Orlando radio station stated the wind volicity was 20 miles an hour. I called them and reported the wind speed at Orlando Air Force Base was 120 knots. The person at the radio station said "impossible", and a moment later, their antenna tower blew over. My friend at Homestead Air Force Base was at his radio station (MARS station), when his building was destroyed. He was in the hospital for a several months, and recovered from his injuries.

When ever there is a hurricane, I pray for the people that are affected. Good luck to all.

Tom
