Hey, John. I've got this article from USA Weekend (one of those Sunday paper mags) that says that major hurricanes are becoming less frequent (though more expensive). It gives this chart for major hurricanes hitting the US this half-century:
1950s: 9
1960s: 6
1970s: 4
1980s: 6
1990s: 4
That was printed August 27-29.
Does that feel right to you?
The National Weather Center site has a list retired hurricane names (the bad ones) and the number increases each year recently.
