I'm disappointed to see it's not a datasession problem (not totally sure though).
For sum performance gain would be for you do it in one pass. IMHO I would prefer SQL if not buffered (really if buffered too, and also change result textbox.value with value - oldvalue + newvalue Oldvalue and newvalue are the values of current field that affect the total).
